5 Minute Make-over

A week ago, we took a hike around a local lake. Mostly we just wanted to get out and get some fresh air and exercise (can never get enough of that can we?). We took our cameras along and took a few shots. I thought it would be neat to play with one of the photos and share the results with you.

What if you could take this original photo:

and in less than 5 minutes come up with a bunch of variations like these:

It took me less than 5 minutes to come up with all of the variations you see above. This is pretty much how I get images to “speak” to me. I run the actions from EZ Actions (www.ezactions.com) and see which variation stands out to me. I can literally come up with these variations in minutes. Once I know which direction works best for a photo, the fun really begins. I take the variation that represents the direction I want to go with the image and can spend my precious post production time creating the finished photo.

Photo Friday – Capricorn Photos

Here is it Friday again and we thought we’d share a couple of our favorite photos from the week at Capricorn Summer Camp. We’ll be there again today for the Horse Show and we’ll put the photos online later tonight (or tomorrow morning).

We’ve also set up the photos so that you can send cards without a watermark on them (under the Events – See Your Photos link above). We hope you enjoy the photos as much as we have enjoyed taking them.

Horse Camp Update

We have been busy with horse camp and really enjoy taking photos during the week. One of the highlights we look forward to each week is the last day of camp; not because it is the last day of camp; but because we love giving the complimentary photos to the students and parents and seeing their reactions. We thought it would be fun to share a couple of the photos we’ve taken this week. We hope you enjoy!

Sharp Shot Color Pop Pro

I’ve been meaning to build a few more example photos and thought that I would play around with some older photos. Today, I’m playing with the Sharp Shot Color Pop Pro action from EZ Actions. While many (dare I say MOST) of the people who use our Photoshop actions (which also work in Photoshop Elements) use them on portraits, some use the actions on other types of photos.

I’m originally from the East Coast (Maryland / D.C.) and we took a trip to visit some relatives a few years ago. While out there, we visited the National Zoo – which I always love (you should visit if you ever get the chance – and it’s free). I snapped a few shots of some of the creatures at the zoo (which also included my family – LOL).

Here, we see a photo of an otter (I just love otters, don’t you). It was nice to see the otters and the otter tank was positioned so that you could see the otters both above the water and below. The photo was shot through somewhat dirty glass and you as you can see, it has a bit of haze / glare. The photo isn’t bad, but look at the before and after and you can immediately see the benefit that the Sharp Shot Color Pop Pro action brings to the table. It takes a nice snap shot and turns it into something of a shot that you might see in a magazine or book.

Over the coming days and weeks, I’ll post more examples using different editing techniques. I hope you enjoy the photos and will come back for another visit.

Thanks,
John
